Val Tho Summit Games 2026: the must-attend trail running and mountain event of the summer in Val Thorens

From August 7 to 9, 2026, the resort of Val Thorens will host the 11th edition of the Val Tho Summit Games, an unmissable event for all trail running, mountain sports, and high-altitude challenge enthusiasts.

Designed for both amateur athletes and experienced trail runners, this major summer weekend offers five unique sporting experiences to enjoy with friends or family, set in an exceptional landscape in the heart of the Alps.

Combining self-improvement, conviviality, discovery, and fun, the Val Tho Summit Games promise a full immersion into the world of high-altitude trail running.


A unique high-altitude sporting event

The Val Tho Summit Games were created in collaboration with athletes, trail running experts, and the resort of Val Thorens to offer a new vision of mountain racing.

The goal is to provide participants with an innovative sporting experience, making full use of the natural and physiological benefits of altitude. Here, trail running is not only about performance—it is also about sharing, freedom, and enjoyment.

Throughout the event, ski lifts will be freely accessible to participants.


The 5 experiences of the Val Tho Summit Games 2026

VT Trail Kids – Friday, August 7, 2026

Young trail runners aged 10 to 15 will also have their own challenge with the VT Trail Kids.

Three age-appropriate courses allow children to discover trail running safely in a fun and sporty atmosphere:

  • 2015–2016: 1.3 km – 54 m D+
  • 2013–2014: 2.6 km – 96 m D+
  • 2011–2012: 3.8 km – 214 m D+

Fee: €8

A great way to pass on a passion for mountains and sport to younger generations.


VT Speed 3200 – Saturday, August 8, 2026

The flagship event of the Val Tho Summit Games returns with a spectacular vertical climb to the iconic Cime Caron.

  • 4.8 km ascent
  • 1,000 m elevation gain
  • 23% average gradient
  • Finish at 3,200 m altitude

The current record stands at 41:16. Can you beat it?

At the top, all participants enjoy a friendly snack break with a breathtaking panoramic view over more than 1,000 Alpine peaks.


VT Trail Pursuit – Sunday, August 9, 2026

The VT Trail Pursuit offers three race formats to suit all trail running profiles:

10 km Trail – 500 m D+
A beginner-friendly format (16+), ideal for discovering the trails of Val Thorens.

  • Min altitude: 2,224 m
  • Max altitude: 2,626 m
  • Trail shoes required
  • Poles recommended

20 km Trail – 1,000 m D+
A more demanding route, including the stunning Lac du Lou area.

  • UTMB WORLD SERIES QUALIFIER 20K

42 km Trail – 2,200 m D+
The flagship race of the event: a spectacular marathon through snow, alpine pastures, and breathtaking landscapes.

  • Min altitude: 1,763 m
  • Max altitude: 3,000 m
  • UTMB WORLD SERIES QUALIFIER 50K (2 points)
  • Prize money for top 5 finishers

NEW 2026: 42 km relay (team of 4)
A brand-new team format where each runner completes one segment before passing the relay.

Fee: €80 per team


VT Family Fun Walk – Sunday, August 9, 2026

The Val Tho Summit Games are also accessible to everyone with the Family Fun Walk.

  • 6 km easy hike
  • Scenic ski lifts
  • 10+ fun activities along the route
  • Gourmet snack at the finish

Open to everyone aged 3 and up (minors must be accompanied).


VT Boost Camp: trail and performance training

Alongside the races, VT Boost Camp offers intensive training sessions including:

  • technical workshops
  • expert talks
  • nutrition advice
  • physical preparation
